Biotechnology in sustainable agriculture

Biotechnology is one of the available tools to contribute to a sustainable production of feedstock for a bioeconomy. The use of biotechnology in agriculture has been accompanied with an active public discussion about the scientific, economic, social and ethical aspects associated with specific applications.

CKade is committed to making a strong contribution to a constructive dialogue to ensure a responsible use of biotechnology in agriculture. CKade develops initiatives and organizes public events. CKade organized a successful international conference GMOs in European Agriculture and Food Production Commissioned by the Dutch ministers of Agriculture and Environment, 250 participants from 30 countries contributed to this event. The outcomes laid the foundation for improved EU rules on the cultivation of GM-crops.

CKade also directed a stakeholder dialogue in collaboration with 'Het Portaal' on the prospects of a sustainable agriculture and the possible contribution of genetically modified crops. A background document that was prepared to support this dialogue can be downloaded here.
